Traveling within Colombia? Letā€™s explore the two lounges in Medellinā€™s MDE airport that you can access thanks to the free lounge access that comes with Priority Pass. Yes, I went to both, because I am a travel-obsessed person, and there was a clear winner.

How To Access The Medellin Airport Lounge

Wondering what the best card is for airport lounge access in general? Check out my breakdown of my favorite travel cards that come with this perk here. For Medellin specifically, these lounges are Priority Pass members. Meaning if you have The Platinum CardĀ® from American Express, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, or the Chase Sapphire ReserveĀ®, you can get in for free.

ā€œThe Loungeā€ Medellin

This was the winner lounge. Iā€™m gonna be honest, itā€™s nothing fancy, but it did the trick.

Food: 3/5

The food was alright. They had pasta, soup, and you could order from a small lunch selection online. It was no Centurion lounge (damn, if that isnā€™t the standard) but it wasnā€™t prepackaged sandwiches either

Drinks: 4/5

They offered beer, wine, hard liquor and the local favorite Aguardiente (with or without sugar!)

The Space: 3/5

The chairs were comfortable and offered a beautiful view of the countryside and tarmac. It just was a bit small, though they did have a meeting room which a few business people were using.

quiet room

They also had a “Quiet Room”; there was no door to block the sound of the lounge, but I appreciate the thought of creating a peaceful space for travelers who just need to nap.

TL;DR: 3/5

Nothing to write home about, but certainly nicer than being out in the fray of the airport. I enjoyed spending an hour here before my flight

The Avianca Lounge in Medellin

“Spacious but Sparse” is how I would classify this lounge. I bopped in, took a few photos, then headed back to ā€œThe Loungeā€.

Food: 2/5

Food but roped off!

They had pasta and salad available, but it was behind a stanchion so you couldnā€™t access it. Iā€™m not sure if this is a covid precaution where they serve you instead or it just wasnā€™t available. Either way, I couldnā€™t ask because no one was around. None of the guests in the lounge had any food either so Iā€™m unsure

Drinks: 1/5

Let me caveat that I came around 1pm, and it states in their notes that they donā€™t serve alcohol until 4pm, but that in and of itself drops the rating for me. I donā€™t need alcohol, but I donā€™t love the time limitation. There were some soft drinks and a coffee machine, but nothing really to make it noteworthy.

Space: 3/5

The lounge was very spacious! And also had a playground type area for kids. A lot of plastic so it wasnā€™t particularly cozy, but I prefer that to not having a seat.

TL;DR: 2/5

Itā€™s fine, but if you’re looking for a Priority Pass Lounge in Medellin, Iā€™d go to ā€œThe Loungeā€ instead.
