Hello Kitty Plane: Amazing Eva Air Business Class Review
A few years ago I was on my way to a wedding in Thailand and ended up on the most surprising, most fun, most unique flight of my life. After booking my business-class ticket on Eva Air (using points, more on that to come), I noticed a little pink bow next to my flight details 🎀. A quick Google search revealed something surprisingly awesome – we’d be flying the themed Hello Kitty plane.

It turns out this is an incredibly sought-after flight, and I’d honestly just stumbled into it with unbelievable luck. Even after years of flying, Eva Air business class still stands out as one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t call myself a huge Hello Kitty fan, but I appreciate a good theme—and I love when airlines go the extra mile (get it?) to make a flight feel joyful.
What’s It Like Inside the Eva Air Hello Kitty Airplane?
Imagine the most themed experience you’ve ever had… then multiply it by 100. Just how Hello Kitty was it?
Think:
- Hello Kitty Check-in & Boarding Passes – Even the paper ticket is themed – it’s a great souvenir.
- Hello Kitty Plane Exterior– The entire outside of the plane is decked out with Hello Kitty and friends. Yes, people were taking photos with the plane. Yes, by people, I mean me.
- Hello Kitty Dishware and Food – The tablecloth, cutlery and food is themed Hello Kitty. The rice. The fruit. The butter. They do not cut corners.
- Hello Kitty Playing Cards – I was flying in business class, so I got a set of themed playing cards in my amenity kit (which I absolutely still own).
- Even the Toilet Paper is Hello Kitty – The attention to detail is next-level.
Even if you’re not the biggest Hello Kitty fan, the sheer commitment to the bit makes the experience fun. I genuinely wish more airlines would do this.
EVA Air Business Class 777 Review: Hello Kitty or Not, It’s Excellent
I took this flight before I started Inside the Upgrade, so while I don’t have a ton of photos, I can tell you the Eva Air business class experience was excellent and I would fly it again in a heartbeat. The flight attendants were committed to the theme and the service, donning Hello Kitty aprons, and they came around throughout the flight to make sure everything was going well.

EVA Air’s Royal Laurel Class is set up in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout, which is just a fancy way of saying: every seat has direct aisle access, and you don’t have to awkwardly climb over anyone to get out. Whether you’re traveling solo or with a friend, the seats are designed for maximum comfort and minimum awkwardness.
What makes these Business-Class seats so great?
- Fully Lie-Flat Bed – The seat stretches out to over 76 inches long, which is more than enough room for most people (except maybe my Dad, who always says the seats are too short for him).
- Tons of Storage – You get multiple compartments for all your stuff, including a dedicated shoe cubby.
- Big, Bright Screen – The 18-inch HD touchscreen has a solid selection of movies and shows, plus noise-canceling headphones that are actually decent.
- Luxury Amenity Kits – Depending on the route, EVA Air hands out kits from Rimowa, Ferragamo, or Jason Wu, filled with skincare, an eye mask, socks, and other goodies.

The meal service was also excellent, starting with rosé champagne (of course) and I personally loved the canapés with duck (my favorite) and smoked salmon (impressive to get right at 35,000 feet).
All told, if you get a chance to fly business class on Eva Air, Hello Kitty-fied or not, you should take it.
What Routes Does the EVA Air Hello Kitty Plane Fly? How You Can Snag a Seat
The route I took was LAX to TPE, but that’s no longer in service and the only U.S. location is Chicago. According to the Eva Air website, these are the routes, and specifically the flight numbers, to look for (because not every plane is Hello Kitty themed):

🌟 Pro Tip: The easiest way to check if your flight is on a Hello Kitty plane is to look for the bow symbol on EVA Air’s website when booking

Flying EVA Air’s Royal Laurel Class (aka business class) is already a treat, but doing it for free with miles? Even better. This was one of my first business-class flights on points and it set the standard pretty high.
These flights retail for ~$3.7k in business class and ~$600 in economy, so points can really be your friend here:

I’ll be honest, finding availability in business class isn’t easy, but here’s a rough guide for how to redeem points for EVA Air business class, including flights on the Hello Kitty plane.
Frequent Flyer Program | Business Class (One-Way) | Transfer Partners |
---|
Avianca LifeMiles | 75,000+ miles | Amex, Citi, Capital One, Bilt |
Air Canada Aeroplan | 75,000+ points | Amex, Chase, Capital One, Bilt |
United MileagePlus | 88,000 miles | Chase |
EVA Air Infinity MileageLands | Star Alliance rates vary | Citi ThankYou (1:1), Capital One (2:1.5) |
Now, I can’t guarantee that these will be the rates as they vary, but it can serve a rough benchmark for how much it could be.
Earnings these points is fairly straightforward with cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (learn more), the American Express® Gold Card, the The Platinum Card® from American Express, the Capital One Venture X, or Bilt. I have free guides for each of these cards here and I offer completely free consultations here.
Eva Air Economy on Points
If you’re interested in flying economy (which is still Hello Kitty themed!) I was able to find flights on Air Canada pretty easily for 50k miles, so transferring points from Amex, Chase, Capital One or Bilt is very doable:

Step-by-Step Guide to Booking EVA Air Business Class with Points
Option 1: Using Star Alliance Partner Miles
This is what I did, and it’s the most common since many people have Chase, Amex or Capital One points.
1️⃣ Find Award Availability
- Search on United.com, Aeroplan.com, or LifeMiles.com for business class award seats. You can also use a tool like Roame or PointsYeah to search across multiple airlines at once. I have discount codes for these sites here for you.
- Short-haul flights (like Taipei to Japan) are easier to find in advance.
- Long-haul flights (like the U.S. or Europe to Taipei) often only open closer to departure—around 2-3 weeks out. That being said, I booked mine a few months out.
- When you find a seat, call the airline and ask them to 1) confirm availability and 2) hold the seat for you. They may not hold it, but you want to be sure it’s available before you transfer points because you can’t transfer them back.
2️⃣ Transfer Points
- Once you confirm availability, transfer your points from Amex, Chase, Citi, Capital One, or Bilt
- Transfers are usually instant but can take up to 24 hours, so don’t transfer until you see the seat available and move quickly.
3️⃣ Book Immediately
- Once your miles are in your account, book ASAP! EVA Air business class seats disappear fast.
Option 2: Booking Through EVA Air’s Infinity MileageLands (Best Availability)
EVA Air’s own loyalty program (Infinity MileageLands) offers much more availability than Star Alliance partners. However, it requires using EVA Air miles (not United, Aeroplan, etc.).
🔹 How to Earn EVA Air Miles:
- Citi ThankYou Points (1:1 transfer ratio)
- Capital One Miles (2:1.5 transfer ratio)
🔹 Why Book Directly With EVA Air?
- Better business class award availability (more flights available compared to partners).
- Easier access to Hello Kitty flights—Star Alliance partners sometimes can’t see these.
- Redemption rates are sometimes cheaper than partners reasonable
🌟 Pro Tip: If you want to guarantee a Hello Kitty flight in business class, this is your best bet so I recommend signing up for the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. I have a complete guide to that card here, in case it’s helpful!
Hello Kitty Plane: Eva Air Business Class Review Wrap Up
If you’re a Hello Kitty fan, this flight was made for you. If you’re not a Hello Kitty fan, it’s still incredibly fun. If you can snag a seat, enjoy your fully themed flying experience—because nothing says luxury like Hello Kitty toilet paper and a pink boarding pass. 🎀✈️
